serves" and is now used to refer to a trained and experienced
professional who provides continuous physical, emotional and
informational support to the mother before, during and just after birth;
or who provides emotional and practical support during the postpartum

The Calgary C.A.R.E Doula Program Network includes agencies that serve Calgary's low-income and at-risk pregnant women.
The Calgary C.A.R.E Doula Program agrees to:
- Match agency clients with Doula volunteers (whenever possible)
- Ensure volunteers adhere to strict codes of ethical and professional accountability standards including complete screening and training
Calgary C.A.R.E Network Members agree to:
- Endorse and support the program vision within their organization
- Refer clients to the program
- Maintain specific outcome records
